Alternative Description

What is the Alternative Description and how does it work?

The Alternative Description is a special field in the programme edit form that allows you to create app-specific content for your programme pages.

When content is added here:

  • It appears on the app instead of the main description

  • The main description remains visible on the website

This is perfect for including extra details or season-specific information that you want app users to see, without changing your site content.

How to add an Alternative Description

  1. Go to ONE Admin > Programme Management > Programmes

  2. Find the programme you want to update

  3. Click Actions > Edit

  4. Scroll down the edit form until you see the Alternative Description editor (just below the main description field)

  5. Enter your text in the WYSIWYG editor

  6. Save your changes

Your alternative description will now display on the app for that programme.

Key points to remember

  • Fallback behaviour:
If no alternative description is added, the app will automatically use the main description from the CMS.

  • External screen display:
The alternative description is also what appears on external screens connected to the app, making it ideal for showing extra information like season details in a larger display area.

  • Separate from website content:
This lets you tailor the experience specifically for app users without affecting your website’s front-end content.

Tips

  • Highlight key info
Use the alternative description to showcase important details like season highlights, cast info, or special notes for app viewers.

  • Keep it concise
Remember, space on app screens is limited - aim for clear, digestible text.

  • Use formatting wisely
The WYSIWYG editor supports basic formatting, so make your content easy to read with headings, lists, or bold text.

  • Update seasonally
Refresh this field for new seasons or special events to keep app content dynamic and engaging.
